Description

Chardonnay Cantina San Michele-Appiano: An Inviting and Persistent Taste

A Pioneer of South Tyrol

The history of Chardonnay in South Tyrol is closely linked to that of the San Michele-Appiano winery. Until the 1980s, some Chardonnay stock was found in the vineyards suited to Pinot Blanc. However, in 1982, the San Michele-Appiano winery vinified 100% Chardonnay for the first time, giving life to a wine that has experienced an important development.

Sensory Profiles

This Chardonnay has a bright yellow color. On the nose, it releases fruity aromas of ripe apple, melon and banana, while on the palate it is delicate, juicy and persistent, offering a long persistence that invites you to take another sip.

Production and Vinification

The grapes come from medium-height (400-500m) vineyards in Appiano and Caldaro, with exposures ranging from south-east to south-west. The soils, calcareous-gravelly and with morainic sediments, and the Guyot training system, help to create the ideal conditions for the development of this vine. The harvest takes place from the beginning to mid-September, with manual harvesting and selection of the grapes. The vinification includes the fermentation and partial malolactic fermentation in steel vats.

Service and Matching Tips

This Chardonnay is ideal for drinking outdoors on warm summer evenings, with a recommended serving temperature of 8-10°. It is a wine that goes wonderfully with appetizers such as carpaccio of porcini mushrooms, light cuisine and "cold pasta". Thanks to its aging potential, it can be stored for 3 to 4 years.
