| Description | Alto Adige DOC Lagrein St. Michael-Eppan: A Wine of Tradition and TerritoryLagrein is a native vine of South Tyrol, a region where it is mainly cultivated. The history of its cultivation dates back to the 14th century and today, it is counted among the best red wines of the region. The Lagrein dell'Alto Adige DOC from St. Michael-Eppan is characterized by its deep dark red colour, a well-structured body and nice spicy aromas. Details on the production of Lagrein St. Michael-EppanThis red wine is produced exclusively with Lagrein grapes, harvested from vineyards located in Gries, near Bolzano, and around Lake Caldaro, at an altitude of 250-280 meters. The vines are trained according to the Guyot system and are between 5 and 20 years old. The land where the grapes are grown is characterized by morainic deposits and sandy alluvial soils. The harvest takes place at the end of September, with the harvest and manual selection of the grapes. The vinification involves a fermentation in steel, followed by a malolactic fermentation and an aging in large wooden barrels. The wine has a yield of 65 hl/ha and has an acidity of 5.15 gr/lt with an alcohol content of 14%.
