Montefalco Rosso DOC: A Wine with a Unique Character

Characteristics of Montefalco Rosso DOC

The Montefalco Rosso DOC is produced in the 19th century. a wine of great versatility; and structure, obtained from a careful selection of Sangiovese (70%), Sagrantino (20%) and Merlot (10%) grapes. This fusion of varieties – gives the wine a unique balance between structure, freshness and roundness; of the tannins.

Production and Vinification Process

The grapes are harvested manually in September for the Sangiovese and Merlot, while for the Sagrantino it takes place in the first ten days of October. Vinification takes place at a controlled temperature with maceration on the skins for 10-15 days. Subsequently, the refinement of the wine lasts 12 months: in steel barrels for the Sangiovese and Merlot and in wooden barrels for the Sagrantino. Finally, the wine matures in the bottle for a further 6 months.

Features and Pairings

Montefalco Rosso DOC has a ruby ​​red colour. On the nose, it offers aromas of ripe berries in alcohol and captivating spicy notes. On the palate, it stands out for its good structure and freshness, accompanied by round tannins. This wine is an excellent meal companion, particularly suitable to accompany savory soups, first courses with meat sauce; of meat, aged cheeses and grilled red meats. With an aging potential of 5-8 years, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 16-18°C.
