Muffato della Sala 2022 – Il Passito d'Autore del Castello della Sala

Muffato della Sala 2022 is a passito wine of rare refinement, produced in the historic Castello della Sala estate, belonging to the Antinori family . This nectar comes from a skilful mix of vines such as Sauvignon Blanc, Grechetto, Riesling, Sémillon and Traminer, which ripen on clayey soils rich in marine fossils. The "noble rot" or Botrytis Cinerea, which develops thanks to the autumn mists, gives the grapes a unique concentration of sugars and aromas, giving life to a complex and fascinating wine.

Climate and Vintage 2022

h3>

The 2022 vintage was characterized by unusual climatic conditions, with a particularly hot and dry winter and spring. Despite the high temperatures recorded in the summer months, the vines of Castello della Sala benefited from the favorable soil and climate conditions, which avoided water stress. The rains at the beginning of August re-established the balance, allowing the grapes to reach optimal ripeness. From October to November, the morning mists favored the development of noble rot, which gave the Muffato della Sala 2022 an extraordinary aromatic concentration and complexity.

Vinification and Aging

The harvest Manual of the grapes began towards the end of October, starting with Traminer, followed by Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, until concluding with Grechetto at the end of November. The grapes, selected several times in the vineyards, were further checked in the cellar before light pressing without destemming. The must fermented for 18 days at a temperature of 17 °C, and the wine was subsequently aged for approximately 6 months in 228 liter barriques. The refinement then continued for another 2 years in steel, ensuring a harmonious evolution of the aromas.

Organoleptic Characteristics

Muffato della Sala 2022 has a brilliant golden yellow color , which reflects its richness and complexity. On the nose, it strikes with an intense bouquet of ripe tropical fruit, such as pineapple and mango, accompanied by notes of peach, apricot and citrus peel. Aromas of honey, caramel, butter and delicate spices, including saffron and ginger, further enrich the olfactory experience. On the palate, the wine is dense and full-bodied, with a perfect balance between sweetness and acidity, which gives a fresh and enveloping sip. The finish is long and persistent, characterized by notes of honey, apricot jam and candied fruit, which invite a second tasting.

A Traditional Wine

The history of Muffato della Sala began in 1987, with a limited production that won over fans and critics all over the world. Since then, the varietal composition has been modified until reaching the current blend of 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 10% Grechetto, 10% Riesling, 10% Sémillon and 10% Traminer. This passito wine represents a true emblem of Umbrian viticulture, capable of best expressing the potential of the unique terroir of Castello della Sala.

Pairings and moments of consumption

Perfect to serve at a temperature between 10 and 12°C, Muffato della Sala 2022 is ideal for accompanying dried fruit-based desserts, shortcrust pastries or blue cheeses. Its versatility and complexity also make it an excellent choice to round off an important dinner, or as the protagonist of a moment of meditation and relaxation. This passito fascinates with its aromatic intensity and impeccable balance, making it a privileged choice for lovers of high-quality sweet wines.
