Description | Castello Nipozzano: the prestigious stronghold of Chianti RufinaThe Castello Nipozzano is a wonderful stronghold built in the year 1000 and located in the heart of the prestigious territory of Chianti Rufina, in the province of Florence, Tuscany. The structure is located on the mountain side overlooking the Arno river valley and was built to defend the city of Florence. Today, Castello Nipozzano is the most famous and historic property of the Frescobaldi family. The wine of Nipozzano: a Renaissance tradition The wine of Nipozzano has an ancient and prestigious history. Popular tradition has it that Nipozzano means "without a well", testifying that the area was poor in water, an ideal circumstance for the cultivation of vines. The first evidence of the quality of Nipozzano wine dates back to the Renaissance, when even great artists such as Donatello and Michelozzo Michelozzi used to purchase this wine. Nipozzano Vecchie Viti Chianti Rufina DOCG Riserva : the Private Collection of the Frescobaldi Family Nipozzano Vecchie Viti Chianti Rufina DOCG Riserva is the wine chosen by the Frescobaldi Family to continue the tradition of reserving a Private Collection for its newborns. The wine originates from the oldest vines of Castello Nipozzano, with a deep root system. It's a wine of great complexity and harmony, aged for 24 months in oak barrels, as per ancient Tuscan tradition. The production process: harvest and fermentation - Vintage 2020 The 2020 vintage was characterized by a winter with long periods of sunshine and low temperatures. The spring however was cool, the rains that fell ensured good water reserves to best face the hot summer days. The summer period was characterized by temperature variations which helped provide refreshment during the night, in particular the usual breezes coming from the slopes of the Apennines. The grapes were therefore accompanied to ripening by a combination of the heat of the sun and refreshing breezes; the bunches arrived at the harvest in perfect sanitary conditions and the production was expressed with typical wines of the area, marked by a good acidity and silky tannins. The Sangiovese grapes are were harvested and immediately placed in the cellar. Once destemmed, the spontaneous fermentation process took place in concrete tanks. At the end of this, the wine remained in the vats to conclude the maceration. Its journey continued in wooden barrels, where the wine remained to mature for the necessary time. The subsequent period in the bottle allowed for a greater balance of all the components, giving the possibility of fully appreciating its essence once the bottle was opened. Awards and Recognitions
