Joseph Kosuth, an American artist, is known for questioning the conventional definitions and procedures of art, focusing his research on language and aiming to visually reveal the complexity of cultural codes. Through the use of linguistic devices such as quotation, translation, repetition, contradiction and negation, Kosuth questions the very nature of art, favoring the ideational dimension of the work rather than the productive-formal one .
