Description | Reims is a city in the French region of Champagne-Ardenne, located in the northeastern part of the country. It is known for being the headquarters of many important champagne houses, including Taittinger, one of the largest in the world. The city has also been an important religious and political center in the past, with many churches and catacombs dating back to the Roman period. Reims is a place of great historical and cultural importance in France. The history of the Maison Taittinger begins in 1743 with Jacques < strong>Fourneaux who began his business as a wine merchant, first selling white and red wines and then dedicating himself to the champagne trade. In 1932 Pierre-Charles Taittinger bought the company and created the Taittinger brand. The distinctive feature of the Maison is the prevalent use of the Chardonnay grape, with Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier< /strong> used in smaller percentages. Today the management of the company is entrusted to Pierre-Emanuel Taittinger, a direct descendant of Pierre-Charles. The winery owns 288 hectares of vineyards, spread among 34 of the best crus of the whole region and produces nine different champagne labels a year, including Brut Reserve, Prestige Rosé and Nocturne, as well as Comtes de Champagne and various vintages. |
