Description | Castelnuovo dell'Abate, a fraction of the municipality of Montalcino in the Province of Siena, in the Tuscany region. In the estates of San Pio and Loreto, the Roman lawyer Gabriele Mastrojanni together with the famous winemaker Maurizio Castelli and Andrea Marchetti give life to a wonderful story made up of great wines and great successes. Sant'Antimo > Red DOC (Controlled Designation of Origin) Costa Colonna is a young ruby red wine with a fresh and fruity obtained from the Sangiovese blend (mostly) which gives strength and structure, Ciliegiolo and Cabernet Sauvignon, all produced in the Mastrojanni estates. The vinification phase takes place through a slow and delicate process for not compromise the integrity of the varietal profile of the harvested grapes. The subsequent refinement in wooden and cement barrels for 12 months brings the wine to its correct maturation. The Mastrojanni vineyards are located at a height between 200 and 400 m.s.l. with soils composed of clays, tuffs, ancient calcareous river pebbles and sandstones. The climate plays a fundamental role: summer with little water; continuous winds of the mistral and the libeccio; optimal temperature range for the formation of the primary aromas of the grapes. The Mastrojanni farm is located on the slopes of Mount Amiata, an ancient extinct volcano 1738 m high. This mountain is crucial for the microclimate of the area. In the summer season, the winds that descend from the summit refresh the vineyards; as the rains approach, before the harvest, the updrafts divert the storms, protecting the vineyards from storms and hailstorms. |
