Scalabrone 2022 - Bolgheri Rosato DOC from the Marchesi Antinori cellars

Scalabrone 2022 is a Bolgheri Rosato DOC, skilfully produced by the Marchesi Antinori cellars. This wine is the fruit of a 2022 vintage in Bolgheri, characterized by a particular climate which guaranteed perfect health of the grapes and favored a balance between sugars and acidity, with intense fruity aromas.

Winemaking

Each variety was harvested and vinified separately. The grapes were destemmed, gently pressed and transferred to the press where they underwent a short maceration of about 2-4 hours at low temperature to enhance the richness of the aromatic precursors. After pressing, the must reached the stainless steel tanks where the alcoholic fermentation took place at a controlled temperature of 16°C. The different lots have been carefully and regularly evaluated and assembled. Scalabrone was bottled in January 2023.

Origin and History

The Scalabrone 2022 comes from the Guado al Tasso estate, located in the small and prestigious DOC of Bolgheri, on the coast of the Upper Maremma, about a hundred kilometers southwest of Florence. This denomination, born in 1994, boasts an international reputation as a new point of reference in the world wine scene. The estate covers an area of ​​1,000 hectares, of which about 320 are planted with vineyards, the rest cultivated with wheat, sunflowers and olive trees, in a splendid plain surrounded by hills known as the "Bolgheri amphitheater" due to its particular shape.

Tasting Notes

Scalabrone 2022 has a slightly pale peony pink colour. The nose shows intense notes of red berried fruit, among which ripe cherry and pomegranate stand out, accompanied by sensations of candied citrus fruit. On the palate it is pleasantly fruity, delicate and characterized by excellent freshness and persistence.

A Rosé Wine of Character

The name of the wine, as well as the vineyard, takes its name from the bandit "Scalabrone" who lived in this area in the early 1800s, a local Robin Hood who attacked ships in the ancient port-canal of Bolgheri. A rosé wine with character, perfect to be enjoyed on any occasion.
