Description | Tignanello 2013: The essence of a unique terroirTignanello 2013 represents the maximum expression of the Tuscan territory, a wine that embodies the soul of Tenuta Tignanello. The result of a year characterized by a varied and ideal climate for the ripening of the grapes, this Toscana IGT stands out for its elegance and complexity, highlighting the mastery and tradition of Antinori. Born from a unique vineyard, this wine manages to convey all the typicality and attitude of an extraordinary terroir, with careful vinification and expert aging. Climate and HarvestL The 2013 vintage was characterized by particular climatic conditions. A mild winter and spring with frequent rains delayed the budding of the vines. However, the hot, dry days of July and August, followed by perfect September and October, allowed for ideal ripening of the grapes. The harvest began later than in previous years, allowing the varieties to develop a unique aromatic complexity. The Sangiovese was harvested at the end of September, followed by the Cabernet Franc and finally the Cabernet Sauvignon at the beginning of October, in optimal climatic conditions to obtain fruit of exceptional quality. Vinification and AgingThe vinification of Tignanello 2013 was carried out with the utmost care, from the selection of the grapes in the vineyard to the fermentation in the cellar. Fermentation and maceration took place in truncated cone tanks, favoring the extraction of aromas and colour, as well as management of tannins oriented towards sweetness and elegance. The malolactic fermentation was carried out in barrique, giving the wine a pleasant aromatic finesse. The refinement lasted 12-14 months in French and Hungarian oak barrels, some new and others second use. During this period, the lots were separately elevated in wood and assembled only a few months before bottling, guaranteeing a final result of great harmony. History and TerritoryTignanello comes exclusively from the vineyard of the same name located in Tenuta Tignanello, a land of 57 hectares facing south-west, of a limestone nature and rich in tufaceous elements, at an altitude between 350 and 400 meters above sea level. This wine was a pioneer in Tuscan production: the first Sangiovese aged in barrique, the first modern red blended with international varieties such as Cabernet, and among the first wines in Chianti not to include white grapes. Its story begins in 1970, with changes and refinements that led it to become the icon it is today. Production takes place only in the best vintages, making each bottle a unique piece. Tasting NotesAt sight, Tignanello 2013 has an intense ruby red with violet reflections. On the nose it offers a complex aromatic intensity: notes of red fruit blend harmoniously with hints of vanilla, cocoa and leather, the result of aging in wood. The spicy and balsamic nuances add further depth to the aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine is enveloping, with soft and silky tannins that respect the typical liveliness of Sangiovese. The balance between acidity and tannins is perfect, culminating in a long and persistent finish, leaving a memory of great refinement. AwardsTignanello 2013 has received important recognition from international critics, as evidence of its excellent quality. James Suckling awarded it a score of 97/100, while the Wine Advocate awarded it a 96/100, confirming its status among the great Italian and international wines. |
