Description | Tignanello 2015: Elegance and Depth in a BottleThe 2015 vintage of Tignanello represents one of the greatest expressions of Tuscan viticulture, embodying the essence of the Chianti Classico territory. Produced in the renowned Tenuta Tignanello, this wine comes from a 57 hectare vineyard facing south-west, characterized by soils of limestone and tuff origin at an altitude between 350 and 400 metres. Its unmistakable character derives from a careful selection of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes, and from vinification and refinement with attention to the smallest details. Climate and HarvestL The 2015 vintage was characterized by a regular climate, typical of Chianti Classico. The cold and dry winter gave way to an initially humid and then dry spring in the months of May and June, ensuring perfect flowering and fruit set of the grapes. The hot summer, with a peak of temperatures in July, was mitigated by excellent temperature variations between day and night, allowing a balanced development of the bunches. In August, some rain favored the start of ripening, while the harvest took place between the second half of September and the beginning of October, months characterized by a dry and windy climate. This climatic trend has allowed us to obtain healthy and ripe grapes, ideal for a wine of great character and structure. Winification and AgingThe 2015 harvest will be remembered for the excellent quality of the grapes , thanks to favorable climatic conditions throughout the season. In the vineyard, the harvest was carried out with extreme care, while in the cellar careful selections were made to guarantee only the best fruit. The fermentation took place in truncated cone tanks, with particular attention to the freshness of the aromas, the extraction of color and the management of tannins, aimed at sweetness and elegance. The racking took place after a series of daily tastings, to ensure the perfect balance of aromas and structure. Subsequently, the malolactic fermentation in barrique enhanced the finesse and complexity of the wine. The refinement lasted 14-16 months in French and Hungarian oak barrels, partly new and partly second passage . The different batches were elevated separately based on the variety, and then blended a few months before bottling. The wine continued its refinement in the bottle for a further 12 months before being marketed, thus reaching the maximum of its aromatic and gustatory expression. History and TraditionTignanello is a symbol of the Tuscan winemaking tradition, the result of a history that began in the 1970s. It was the first Sangiovese to be aged in barrique and one of the first modern red wines to include international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon. Originally "Chianti Classico Riserva Vigneto Tignanello", it assumed its current name in 1971 and eliminated the use of white grapes in 1975. Since 1982, the composition of Tignanello has remained unchanged, and it is produced exclusively in the best years, confirming its status as an iconic and sought-after wine. Tasting NotesTignanello 2015 presents itself with an intense ruby red color, of great depth. On the nose, it offers a rich and complex bouquet: the notes of ripe red fruit emerge clearly, such as blackcurrant and blackberry, in harmony with the hints of chocolate and liquorice. On the palate, the wine is enveloping and vibrant, with silky tannins that give structure and fullness. The complexity and balance between freshness and intensity make this wine a unique sensorial experience, which culminates in a long and persistent finish. Tignanello 2015 thus confirms itself as a wine of extraordinary elegance, capable of evolving further with time. AwardsThe 2015 vintage of Tignanello was acclaimed by international critics, obtaining exceptional scores : 98/100 from James Suckling and Vinous, 97/100 from Wine Spectator and 96/100 from Wine Advocate. These awards attest to the quality and excellence of a wine that continues to be a point of reference in the world wine scene. |
