Description | Tignanello 2016: A Magnificent Expression of Chianti ClassicoTignanello 2016 represents one of the best interpretations of the Tuscan winemaking tradition. Produced in the heart of Chianti Classico, within the 57 hectare vineyard of the same name on the Tignanello estate, this wine embodies the passion and attention to detail that distinguish the wines of the Antinori family. The ideal climatic conditions and the careful selection of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes contribute to making the 2016 vintage one of the most excellent in recent years. Climate and HarvestL The 2016 vintage benefited from particularly favorable climatic conditions. After a mild and dry autumn and winter, spring brought good weather and an earlier bud break than the historical average. In May and the first half of June, rainfall and cool temperatures did not hinder the crucial flowering and fruit set phases. The summer was characterized by a warm climate but without excesses of heat, optimal conditions for perfect vegetative-productive development. The harvest months were regular, with periods of sun and ventilation alternating with rain, favoring an ideal ripening of the grapes. The harvest began on September 23rd for Sangiovese, followed at the end of September and beginning of October for Cabernet Franc and concluded from October 3rd to 10th with Cabernet Sauvignon. Vinification and AgingThe vinification of Tignanello 2016 followed a rigorous process, aimed at enhancing the unique characteristics of the vintage. Once in the cellar, the grapes were carefully selected, and during fermentation in truncated cone tanks, particular attention was paid to the freshness of the aromas, the extraction of color and the management of tannins, to obtain an elegant and soft wine. The racking was carried out only after numerous daily tastings, guaranteeing precise quality control. The malolactic fermentation took place in barriques, enhancing the finesse and complexity of the aromas. The refinement lasted for 14-16 months in French and Hungarian oak barrels, partly new and partly second passage. The different lots, vinified separately based on the variety, were elevated in wood and subsequently assembled shortly before bottling. The wine was further refined for 12 months in the bottle before being placed on the market, thus reaching the maximum of its elegance and complexity. History and TraditionTignanello comes from a vineyard which is synonymous with innovation and tradition. Located in the heart of Tenuta Tignanello, at an altitude between 350 and 400 meters above sea level, it was the first Sangiovese to be aged in barrique and one of the first modern red wines to be blended with non-traditional varieties such as Cabernet . Its history begins with the 1970 vintage, and since 1982 the composition has remained unchanged. It is produced exclusively in the best vintages, always ensuring a level of excellence that has contributed to making Tignanello one of the most iconic wines on the world wine scene. Tasting NotesTignanello 2016 presents itself with an intense, lively and brilliant ruby red colour. On the nose, it offers an enveloping aromatic bouquet: notes of ripe red fruit harmoniously combine with hints of fresh blackberry and berries, accompanied by delicate nuances of vanilla, bitter chocolate and light spices. On the palate, the wine is vibrant and refined, with silky tannins that give a complex structure and extraordinary elegance. The balance is perfect, supported by a long, intense and persistent finish that leaves an indelible mark. AwardsThe 2016 vintage of Tignanello has been widely acclaimed by international critics , obtaining exceptional scores. Wine Enthusiast awarded it an impressive 99/100, while Vinous awarded it a 98/100. Wine Spectator and Wine Advocate recognized its quality with a score of 97/100, consecrating it as one of the best wines in its category. This vintage, thanks to its finesse and complexity, establishes itself as one of the most extraordinary in the history of Tignanello. |
