Description | Tignanello 2017: An Intense and Vibrant VintageTignanello 2017 is the emblem of the tradition and innovation of Toscana IGT. Produced in the heart of the Tignanello estate, on a 57-hectare vineyard facing south-west and characterized by limestone and tufaceous soils, this wine is made from Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes. The 2017 vintage was particular and full of climatic challenges, which however led to the creation of a wine of great character and complexity. Climate and Harvest2017 was a unusual year in its course. The winter recorded cold temperatures only in the month of January, followed by a mild climate which favored an early budding of the vines. However, the sudden cold at the end of April caused a slight reduction in production. From May to August, Chianti Classico experienced a hot and dry period, with temperatures often above 30°C. These conditions subjected the plants to significant stress, partly mitigated by the September rains, which rebalanced the ripening process of the grapes. The harvest, which began on September 20th and ended on October 6th, required particular attention to obtain grapes of optimal quality, making the most of the climatic conditions of a complex year. Vinification and Aging h3>The management of the 2017 harvest was crucial in enhancing the peculiarities of the vintage. In the cellar, the grapes were subjected to a rigorous selection, and the fermentation took place in truncated cone tanks, with a focus on the preservation of aromas, the extraction of color and the sweetness of the tannins. The racking was carried out only after careful daily tastings, ensuring the perfect aromatic balance of the wine. The malolactic fermentation in barrique further accentuated the finesse and complexity of the aromas. The refinement took place in French and Hungarian oak barrels, partly new and partly second passage, for a period of 14-16 months. The lots were vinified separately based on the variety, then assembled to complete the evolution in wood. After bottling, the wine aged for a further 12 months in the bottle before being presented on the market, thus acquiring its unique and complex identity. History and TraditionTignanello it is one of the most representative wines of Tuscan viticulture, born from a vineyard located on limestone soils at an altitude between 350 and 400 meters. Its history begins in the 70s, when it was produced as "Chianti Classico Riserva Vigneto Tignanello". Subsequently, with the 1971 vintage, it became a Tuscan table wine, completely eliminating white grapes from the composition in 1975. Tignanello was one of the first modern reds blended with international varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, and is produced only in better years. This commitment to quality has made Tignanello a cult wine at an international level. Tasting NotesTignanello 2017 has an intense ruby red color. On the nose, it offers a rich and complex bouquet, with notes of ripe red fruit such as cherry in alcohol, black cherry, raspberry and plum. These aromas blend with spicy hints of clove and liquorice, while delicate balsamic nuances of mint and chocolate enrich the aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine is enveloping and vibrant, with soft and velvety tannins that give a refined structure. The finish is long and persistent, with an aftertaste that reflects the sensations perceived by the nose, giving a taste experience of great complexity and elegance. AwardsThe 2017 vintage of Tignanello has obtained important recognition from international critics. Wine Enthusiast awarded it a prestigious 97/100, while Wine Advocate and James Suckling rated it an excellent 96/100. These scores testify to the quality and excellence of a wine which, even in a challenging vintage, confirms itself among the best in the panorama of Tuscan and international wines. |
