Villa Antinori Rosso Toscana IGT 2022 – The Elegance of Tuscan Tradition

The Villa Antinori Rosso Toscana IGT 2022 is a wine that embodies the history and legacy of the Antinori family, one of the oldest and prestigious Italian wine houses. Produced for the first time in 1928, this red represents a perfect synthesis between tradition and innovation, using grapes selected from the Tuscan estates owned. Villa Antinori is a symbolic wine, created to best express the Tuscan territory and style, capable of seducing the most demanding palates with its complexity and refinement.

Climate and Vintage 2022

The 2022 vintage was characterized by a mild and little rainy climate. The beginning of budding occurred in the first days of April, slightly later than the previous year, due to the low temperatures recorded in that period. However, the warm and sunny weather in May favored rapid development of the vine, leading to early flowering towards the end of the month. The summer was generally dry and hot, with welcome rains starting from mid-August, which ensured optimal ripening of the grapes. The harvest began in the second week of September with Merlot, continuing with Syrah, Petit Verdot and concluding with Sangiovese and Cabernet by the end of September. The grapes were harvested in perfect condition, guaranteeing a high quality wine.

Vinification and Aging

After harvesting, the grapes were destemmed and delicately pressed, before being transferred in thermo-conditioned tanks. The alcoholic fermentation lasted 5-7 days, with controlled temperatures that did not exceed 28°C for varieties such as Sangiovese, Cabernet and Petit Verdot, in order to extract color and sweet tannins. For the Syrah and Merlot grapes, temperatures were kept below 25°C to preserve the aromatic components. Maceration lasted between 8 and 12 days, and subsequently, all varieties completed malolactic fermentation by November. The wine was then aged in French and Hungarian oak barriques, where it acquired further complexity before bottling, scheduled for July 2024.

Organoleptic Characteristics

Villa Antinori Rosso 2022 yes presents an inviting bright ruby red color. The nose is intense and complex, offering seductive aromas of ripe red fruit, such as cherries and currants, enriched by spicy notes of vanilla and toasted hazelnut. On the palate, the wine is enveloping, with a pleasant freshness and flavor. The tannins are soft and well integrated, giving the sip a balanced and refined structure. The finish is long and persistent, with a delicate sensation of sweet spices that invites further tasting.

A Wine of History and Tradition

Villa Antinori is a real homage to the winemaking history of the Antinori family, conceived to be the symbol of their continuity and connection with the territory. First created by Marquis Niccolò Antinori, this wine has evolved over the years, always maintaining its Tuscan identity. Quoting Piero Antinori: "It's called Villa Antinori. Rosso di Sangue Toscano [...] from grapes born, ripened and harvested in our vineyards on the Tuscan estates and then vinified and aged in Casa Antinori". Every sip of Villa Antinori Rosso tells the story of a family and a territory, offering a sensorial experience that combines past and present.

Pairings and Consumption Occasions

Villa Antinori Rosso Toscana IGT 2022 pairs perfectly with traditional Tuscan dishes, such as roast meats, game and mature cheeses. It is also ideal with tasty first courses, such as pappardelle with wild boar ragout or baked lasagna. Thanks to its versatility and balanced structure, it is a wine suitable both for elegant dinners and for convivial moments with family or friends. We recommend serving it at a temperature of 16-18°C to best enhance its organoleptic qualities.
